Second week in the MTC

Hey everyone!! This week was fantastic! I learned a lot more about myself and how I teach and how to improve. We've done a lot of role plays on how to teach the lessons and also practicing through teaching our TRC's. They're people who come to be investigators for us, but they don't tell us which one's are actually investigators and which one's are members. It's been a really cool experience in learning how to simplify the lessons and get to know people. I am so excited to be out in the field though! Ahhh! We leave this Wednesday and head on a plane to Arkansas. I'm sad I won't be with my companion or my district anymore, but so ready for the new adventure and the opportunities to learn more about the gospel.

I have learned so much about becoming more like Christ and why we teach the way we teach. I think it is so important to help investigators know you are there for them and there to help them learn more about how they can get that deeper understanding of why they are here and so on. I just think it's so cool how people are ready and wanting to know more and we can help them with that. I love it. Anyways, I put Hurrah for Israel as the title because that is what we sang at the devotional on Tuesday. My companion and I joined the choir and it was awesome. The choir director is so funny and shares so many great stories while we're practicing. Hearing all these missionary stories makes me even more excited to go out into the field. Anyways one of the stories he shared with us this week was that while his mission president was on his mission he was teaching someone who had an addiction to alcohol and him and his companion taught about the Word of Wisdom one time. This guy they were teaching had a strong testimony already, but he also had his own fancy bar in his house and the neighborhood he was in was not very rich, but this guy spent his money on this bar and all this expensive alcohol. While they were teaching him the word of wisdom, they were right next to the bar and the choir directors mission president boldly said after he committed to live it, "Let's dump all your alcohol down the sink right now then." And he did it. This guy knew that the gospel was more important than his alcohol and it is amazing. I love this story, because we've been talking about the importance of commitment's and how it needs to be direct so they understand what is being asked of them. Sorry if the story is a bit confusing, but it was so cool so I wanted to share as best I could. Choir is awesome. We sung that song for the devotional where Elder Weatherford T. Clayton of the Seventy came and spoke to us and he talked about the solar eclipse and how it relates to the gospel. At the end, he had us all sing Army of Helaman without the piano and it was amazing. One girl stood up and then everyone stood up. It was so powerful and the spirit was so strong I loved it. Also, Kenneth Cope came and spoke to us for the Sunday devotional and it was awesome. He sang a lot of songs and it was really good.

This week has been pretty fun filled with lots of jokes. My district I am in right now is so much fun. The Elders are crazy which makes it very entertaining in class. I just want you all to know that I am loving the MTC and I love being a missionary. One of my favorite things is to put on my name tag each morning. It means so much to me to be able to wear the name of Jesus Christ wherever I go and makes me want to be more like Him. I love this gospel and I can't wait to go share with the people in Arkansas! I can't believe I leave on Wednesday! oh, actually sad story, so my whole district leave Tuesday morning except me, my companion, and sister price. So we have to spend the whole day with just the three of us. It's going to suck, but luckily it's only one day. But a funny story is my companion and I were sitting on this balcony thing in the new building looking at all the new missionaries coming yesterday and I was just kind of talking about the people to my companion, but she wasn't really listening to me so I was mostly talking to myself, but she says, " Sister Burton, you could be on a talk show." It was so funny cause I was like commentating on everything and her response was so good. Anyways, it's been a blast being here and making these funny memories.

I love you all! I can't believe it's been over two weeks! This place is seriously a time warp and a bubble. I'm excited to go back out into the real world, sorta. Anyways, I miss you all so much! I'll email probably next monday once I get into the mission. Thank you so much for all the support and the emails!

Love, Sister Burton

Temple Tuesday November 13, 2017

Hey Friends!! This week was so fun!! We had the amazing opportunity to go to the St.Louis temple this week! I loved it so much! I am so grateful we were able to go because we don't have on in our mission, but blessed with the best mission president :) We also had a fun time with our zone this week and did interviews with our mission president and his wife. They are such great people with lots of advice for us missionaries, I love it!  Something amazing that happened this week was we had exchanges with the traveling sisters (they go around the mission visiting all the sisters) and so there were four sisters just in our area, but it was the busiest day of the week! We had so many lessons that with each companionship we didn't have any gaps of time. It was such a cool miracle because we were able to teach so many people and have such a great experience. I just thought that was so cool!  Another thing that I started this week was reading the Book of Mormon and just...

TRY IT!!! July 9, 2018

Hello Friends and Family! This week was super good! I learned a lot! We got to meet our new Mission President and his wife this week! yay! They are so sweet! I am very excited to be able to work with them, even though it is sad to see the Lovelands go, they were amazing. I'm President and Sister Strong will be too! One thing I learned from President Strong this week was to TRY IT. He talked a little bit about how you won't know unless you try. This really stuck out to me because it works so well with everything! Like, you never know if that person is going to be interested in the gospel unless you try talking to them, right? You don't know if you'll be good at something unless you try. I love this so much! I'm not sure why it clicked so well, but it did. and it's TRUE! We are here to TRY. We have been sent to earth and given the gift of agency to try things. To try to improve and be better. We can't become perfect at something unless we try. I am so g...
