Hey Y'all!!
What an adventurous week and a half! (the subject line is for mom- her favorite commercial that I think of every time I tell people where I'm going haha) but we got transfer calls and I am sadly leaving Prairie Grove and headed farther south for the winter to go to Van Buren!! It's a small branch down there and they've asked me to be the Sister Training Leader over all the sisters in that Zone. So that will be something new and exciting! My companion is SISTER BUHLER!!! She's been there 3 months already and it's her first area, so she just finished her training. It'll be so fun!! It was sad saying goodbye to everyone here, but I know I'll see them again!
(This is my all-time favorite commercial...)
We had a fun week visiting with everyone. It's an awesome excuse to go see people we haven't seen in a while. There are so many good things happening in this area, I'm excited for the new sister to come here! although, funny story.. yesterday we had back to back appointments all day. Someone wanted to take us out to lunch, so we went, but boy it was a big lunch so we were stuffed after that. Then we went and had a lesson with our recent convert and they wanted to make brownies so we had that, then right after, we went to go read the Book of Mormon with some of our returning members and they wanted to take us out to eat... apparently we didn't make it clear that we had already had a dinner planned... so we ate with them because we didn't want to be rude and they thought that was the plan... but then we were really stuffed and had to go to our actual dinner appointment right after that. It was a TON of food. but wonderful conversations and lessons. I love the people here so much!! They truly do take care of us missionaries. so don't worry, I'm definitely being fed, maybe even a little over fed haha. but I love it.
We had a cool experience the other day when we were tracting. We were inviting all the people who lived around the church to come to our trunk or treat and a few of them were very glad we thought of them because they have kids. but one of the couples we went to visit said that they knew someone who served a mission and someone else said they knew the Bishop and his family really well. It's amazing to see how people know members of the church and it really made me think about the impressions we leave with people. We may not always recognize it, but we have a huge influence on those around us. When we are baptized we take upon us the name of Jesus Christ and by doing so, we represent Him. This made me think about how am I representing my Savior? and can people tell? This is like when President Nelson spoke in General Conference about the name of the church. "Taking the Savior’s name upon us includes declaring and witnessing to others—through our actions and our words—that Jesus is the Christ. Have we been so afraid to offend someone who called us “Mormons” that we have failed to defend the Savior Himself, to stand up for Him even in the name by which His Church is called?
If we as a people and as individuals are to have access to the power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ—to cleanse and heal us, to strengthen and magnify us, and ultimately to exalt us—we must clearly acknowledge Him as the source of that power. We can begin by calling His Church by the name He decreed."
This truly is His church and I love how we have the opportunities to share that with others and it doesn't have to be through something big. It's amazing to see the touches, people learn more from the church through examples of the members and eventually it will prepare them to meet with the missionaries. It's so wonderful!! Please don't forget who you are and who you represent. :)
Love, Sister Burton
This is Sister Vines. She posted the sweetest message on Facebook about Mariah being transferred. I am so grateful for wonderful people who have loved and cared for her while she is out serving. The pics below are some of the pictures Sister Vines posted.
